Figure 1. This is an erythroblast island in a bone marrow aspirate stained with Prussian blue to identify iron deposits. There are many ringed sideroblasts. On electron microscopy the iron is seen to be coursely deposited in the cristae of mitochondria which form a necklace around the erythroblast nucleus.
