Figure 1. Peripheral smear from a 3 month old infant with DiGeorge's syndrome who presented with CMV associated respiratory distress is shown. A large granulated lymphocyte (LGL) with multiple azurophilic granules is shown. Essentially all the peripheral T cells present were CD2, CD16, and CD56 positive, consistent with an NK immunophenotype.

Figure 3. Two NK cells are persent in the center of the image. Multiple azurophilic granules are noted. In addition, several eosinophils can be seen. The patient had an absolute eosinophila in the peripheral blood.

Figure 6. The nuclear chromatin in this NK cell is more clumped, the cytoplasmic basophilia are limited to the cytoplasmic borders and the granules are evenly dispersed throughout the cytoplasm.

Figure 7. This NK cell has the appearance of a plasma cell with coarse clumped chromatin, eccentric nucleus and a pale hof area. Faint azurophilic granules, however, are present in the cytoplasm.
