Figure 2. Skin biopsy at higher magnification revealing cytology of anaplastic lymphocytes with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm, irregular nuclei (some horseshoe- or ring- shaped), and prominent eosinophilic nucleoli.

Figure 3. Neutrophils surround anaplastic lymphocytes. In some "neutrophil-rich" cases, the anaplastic cells are difficult to find and the image is confused with an infectious or other inflammatory process. In such cases a stain for CD30 antigen helps to detect the few anaplastic lymphoma cells.
