Figure 1. A low-power view of a bone marrow biopsy of a patient with systemic mastocytosis is shown. The marrow is markedly hypercellular with pale appearing patch-like infiltrates noted between areas of normal hematopoiesis. The infiltrates are in a paratrabecular and perivascualr distribution.

Figure 2. The distribution of the infiltrate is more readily appreciated in this view, extending from the paratrabecular location downward surrounding the vessel. Eosinophils appear to form a border border to the infiltrate in this view.

Figure 3. The cells within the infiltrate show abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and many of the cells have an irregular shaped nucleus. Basophilic granules are not apparent. Numerous eosinophils can be seen at border of the lesion.
