Figure 1. The vascular endothelium participates in fibrinolysis through the secretion of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), as well as the ability to bind tPA, PAI-1, urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), and plasminogen.
